The SJC Youth Wellness initiative is a community-driven project focused on supporting youth in San Joaquin County with their mental health and well-being. In collaboration with local organizations, schools, and community members, the goal is to provide youth with reliable resources and a trusted network of support. This UX case study outlines the design and development of a platform aimed at connecting youth with mental health resources, reducing the stigma around mental health, and empowering them to stay healthy, learn, and grow.
Mental health challenges among youth are an increasing concern, and unfortunately, access to high-quality resources for mental well-being is often either difficult to find or expensive. Many young people struggle with feelings of isolation, depression, and anxiety, but don't have a safe space or trusted platform where they can get help or share their feelings. The SJC Youth Wellness platform aims to address this gap by offering a centralized space for young people in San Joaquin County to access mental health resources and build their social and emotional skills. The goal is to provide accessible, easy-to-understand, and trusted content, as well as a supportive community where youth can seek help when needed.
Mental health resources for youth are fragmented and not easily accessible, leading to confusion and frustration when seeking help. Many youth also face barriers such as stigma, lack of awareness about available services, and difficulty trusting online resources. Youth are often unaware of where to turn for help, leading to feelings of isolation or uncertainty when it comes to addressing mental health concerns.
